MCTS 70-640 Exam Overview
In the MCTS 70-640 exam you will be measured on your ability to configure and maintain a Windows Server 2008 Active Directory environment. Active directory is backbone of every Windows network and is responsible for maintaining authentication and security for both users and computers to network resources. When you accomplish a pass in the 70-640 exam you then gain a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist certification:

The 70-640 exam also counts as credit towards both these MCITP certifications:
MCITP: Enterprise Administrator on Windows Server 2008
MCITP: Server Administrator on Windows Server 2008
Microsoft recommends that prior to sitting the 70-640 exam that you have at least 1 years experience administering and maintaining a Windows Server 2008 network with at least 250 users, multiple domain controllers spread over different physical locations and maintaining network services such as messaging, database, file and print servers. In saying this, it is not vital to have this prior experience but does help immensely with your studies.
Gaining a pass in 70-640 and achieving MCTS status in windows active directory configuration will prove invaluable in your IT administrator career if you plan to work in a role such as a Server Administrator, Network Administrator or Technical Support Analyst.
MCTS 70-640 Syllabus
The 640 exam will test your technical knowledge and abilities in all aspects of Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration. The test is split into six different areas which will each affect your weighted score at the close of the exam.
- Configuring DNS for Active Directory (17 percent)
- Configuring the Active Directory infrastructure (17 percent)
- Configuring Active Directory Roles and Services (14 percent)
- Creating and maintaining Active Directory objects (18 percent)
- Maintaining the Active Directory environment (18 percent)
- Configuring Active Directory Certificate Services (15 percent)
